Russia and NASA could cooperate to a vital project. "We agreed"

Russia has announced plans Saturday to build in collaboration with NASA orbiting a new station, which will replace the International Space Station (ISS), inform lexpress.fr.

However, Russian politicians do not want to hurry and want to analyze the smallest details before approving the project.

"Roscosmos and NASA will work on a program for future orbital station," said director of the Russian space agency, Igor Komarov, the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, in the presence of US space agency administrator Charles Bolden. "We agreed that a group of countries taking part in the project to participate in future ISS project," Russian official said, quoted by Interfax news agency.

According to Russian director, the project of a new space station will be one "open" and may include the participation of countries not currently involved in the operation of the International Space Station.

Russia and NASA were made recently agreed to continue to operate and finance together ISS until 2024, but future joint projects to this statement were unsafe due to damage relations between the two countries amid Ukrainian crisis.

"The first step is that the ISS will be operated until 2024," said Igor Komarov, adding that Roscosmos and NASA "do not exclude the possibility that the life of the station to be extended" beyond this date. Russia previously threatened to pull the ISS project since 2020 and that it will build its own space station after the year 2024 and recovered after dismantling station ISS modules.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, whose attributions enter and space sector, but something seemed more cautious than Igor Komarov Saturday. "The Russian government will consider the outcome of negotiations between Roscosmos and NASA. Decisions will be taken later," he wrote on Twitter.

A spacecraft that took on board a US astronaut and two Russian cosmonauts successfully connected, Saturday at ISS, marking the beginning of a historic mission, in which two of the crew will spend a year in space.

Since its launch in 1998, ISS was financed largely by Russia and the US, each of the two states depending on each other, and space cooperation remains one of the few areas where the Russian-American cooperation has not suffered.

ISS is a space project worth 100 billion dollars, the achievement of which 16 countries participate. The station is continuously occupied since November 2000 by joint teams.

ISS is in orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometers, making a complete revolution around the Earth every 90 minutes, sailing with average speed of 28,000 km / h. Weighing over 408 tons, ISS offers a living area equivalent to that of a Boeing 747.
