Remaining giant crocodile fossil, discovered in Peru



The fossilized remains of crocodiles, scattered throughout the swamps of Peru in 13 million years ago were discovered by paleontologists.

Giant crocodile fossils have been discovered recently in two places with bones near Iquitos (Peru).

In 13 million years ago, seven species of crocodilian, some measuring more than 8 meters, current inhabited part of Peru. Scientists warn that simulated the presence of a large number of species has no equivalent in the history of the planet.

Cohabitation crocodiles would have been possible because there is food in abundance and species have a different diet.

Gnatusuchus, nicknamed "the smiling crocodile" have a shape similar to the least of his contemporaries. This species measure about 1.6 meters and have shovel-shaped snout, Peter could eat shellfish from mud.

The fierce species were Purussaurus neivensis. These crocodiles had powerful jaws, sharp teeth and could reach 8 feet in length.
