Five surprising things about the lakes of the world

Lakes by their diversity, natural resource remains a mystery. Below are five lakes surprising things about the world.

On earth there are 117 million lakes covering about 3.7% of the mainland. In this calculation were considered Antarctica, Greenland and the United caps. Around 90 million of these lakes are less than two football fields put together, that are between 0.2 and one hectare.

Collectively, lakesides measured 250 times the length of the equator. The equator is 11,756 miles.

Most lakes in the world are in Canada, Russia, Alaska, Sweden and Finland. In tropical countries there are also many lakes, but the Nordic countries are "rich" in this regard simply because the ground surface is higher in the northern hemisphere than in the southern.

Most lakes are at a low altitude. About 85% of these are within 500 meters above sea level. There are two explanations for this. First, narrow mountainous area lakes and secondly, states that are most lakes were flattened by glaciers during the last ice age.

Constantly appearing and disappearing lakes. A new lake suddenly appeared in Tunisia, in August 2014, is the accumulated water from rain or following a sudden release of groundwater. In permafrost regions of Russia and Alaska small lakes dry due to high temperatures. In Mongolia, some 100 lakes have disappeared in 2000 due to drought and the need for irrigation.
