A Saudi cleric tried to "prove" that the earth revolves around the sun

An Arab cleric attempted to demonstrate to students that the Earth "is stationary and does not move", making a series of inferences "logical".

A video posted on YouTube on the day that commemorated 450 years since the birth of Galileo Galilei has sparked a wave of criticism on social networks. The protagonist of that clip is a Saudi cleric who say that the earth does not revolve around the sun, but vice versa.

Responding to a student who asked if the Earth moves, Sheikh Bandar Al-Khaibari said that our planet "is stationary and does not move".

The man tried to argue statement quoting in turn other clergy, and selecting certain religious statements. The most controversial method by which Al-Khaibari rejected the theory of the earth's rotation was an inference "logic" also notes the source.

"First of all, where are we now? Go to Sharjah airport, to arrive in China by plane, is that clear? "He asked. "Focus with me. This is Earth, "continued Sheikh, holding a glass of water and explaining that if the plane would stop in the air, then" China would come to him, "if the planet would rotate in one direction.

On the other hand, if the Earth would rotate in the opposite direction, then the plane would never come to China because "China is turning," he argued Sheikh.
