How you dress for success. Scientists opinion

Elegant clothing worn at work may alter the function of the brain, according to a recent study by researchers in the United States, reports huffingtonpost.com.

In many modern offices, particularly those belonging to companies in creative fields, the dress code is often highly permissive. Jeans and T-shirts are often considered more appropriate attire in the office than the classical masculine suits or dresses and high-heeled shoes.

But a new study suggests a surprising advantage of the elegant clothing worn at work. An elegant outfit changes the way the person thinks, helping her to focus on the big picture, say the authors of this study, published in Social Psychological & Personality Science.

The study, conducted by researchers at Columbia University and California State University Northridge, found that the clothing has a significant impact on the types of cognitive processes. The attire is formal, the cognitive process of the person concerned becomes the abstract.

Scientists have invited a group of volunteers - young students of both sexes - to complete a series of questionnaires designed to determine the types of cognitive processes of their time. Before that test, volunteers were invited to assess their degree of formality in the light of their clothing outfits. In other tests, volunteers were asked to wear "clothes that can be worn to classes" and "clothes that can be worn for interviews".

During a series of experiments, volunteers who wore formal attire presented a comprehensive thinking, holistic.

"Garment made people feel stronger and this made them more willing to adopt abstract thinking at a higher level," said study coordinator, Michael Slepian, that "classic suit is a symbol power ".
