72 years ago, the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann discovered the hallucinogenic effects of LSD.

Born on January 11, 1906, Hofmann (d. 2008) discovered LSD chance when, in 1943, during a laboratory experiment, a minuscule amount of substance newly created leaked on his hand. "I was surprised by the strong state of restlessness, combined with slight dizziness. I immediately stopped working and I went to the house where I was immersed in a bad state, similar to the poisoning, but driven by a strong imagination. In a dreamlike state, I have seen fantastic images, bright colors and strange shapes that crosses my face. It took about two hours, "said the Swiss at its 100th anniversary.


Hofmann firmly believed in its healing qualities of the drug, the one you see as a possible remedy for severe mental illnesses as schizophrenia; defending even after its prohibition in the 60s. LSD has experienced great popularity among the hippy movement and rock stars of the time, when drug abuse had become a major problem for many young people.
