A spectroscopic image of Mercury was published by NASA

NASA published a novel image made by the Messenger spacecraft is depicted mineral composition of Mercury's surface.

The probe which is orbiting the planet for four years will end its mission on Friday when it will collapse on the nearest planet to the sun.

Controlled collapse will be made on the nearest side of the planet Earth, so the impact can be observed in real time, researchers will precluded from receiving a series of data related to the entry probe the planet's atmosphere.

Since 2011, the Messenger planet surface measurements collected in hundreds of different wavelengths, from ultraviolet to near infrared. They were shown on a map by using red, green and blue.

Some colors indicate the mineral composition of the surface, like the age of craters or volcanic events.
