What are "colored technologies" used by extremists to take power of Vladimir Putin


Russia faces extremist attempts to use "colored technology" from illegal protests to open propaganda of hate, social networks, said Wednesday Russian President Vladimir Putin was quoted by the website of Sputnik.

"The actions of extremists are becoming more widespread. We are faced with attempts to use so-called colored technologies, from organizing illegal street protests, to open propaganda of hate, social networks," said Putin, in a speech in front of the Interior Ministry employees.

Putin has repeatedly warned about the negative consequences of "colored revolutions", stating that such attempts must be prevented in Russia and that the population should be protected from extremists.

The term "color revolutions" means the removal of a large street protests scheme, funded by foreign powers. More regime changes caused by popular protests were held in several former Soviet republics, including Georgia, in the 2003 Rose Revolution in Ukraine, the Orange Revolution in 2004 in Kyrgyzstan, the Tulip Revolution of 2005.

In April 2014, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the European Union and the United States tried to feed another "color revolution" in Ukraine, referring to the overthrow of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in February 2014 .
