There is a mirage: How does South American Huacachina oasis, a veritable paradise in the desert. GALLERY

Huacachina oasis in southern Peru is a small lagoon surrounded by palm trees and giant sand dunes similar to those in the Sahara desert. The oasis is surrounded by more rustic hotels, shops and even a public library.

In 1940, Huacachina has become a popular destination for spa wealthy Peruvians in Lima. The waters were credited with miraculous powers of healing.

At that time began to be built luxury hotels and exclusive restaurants, but lost oasis clientele a decade later.

Only in the 90s, many businessmen began to promote it again, and now compete with other highly sought after tourist destinations.

Oasis is located just four kilometers from the city of Ica, a former Spanish colony, and to five hours from the capital Lima.

Among the attractions offered by the 96 local site include sandboarding, sports like snowboarding, which consists of lowering the dunes several hundred meters high on a plate.
