Ten true historical events, but unlikely



World history is full of events that are often hard to believe. We offer an overview of the ten most bizarre, sometimes bloody, things documented by historians.

1. Ottoman Sultan Ibrahim I drowned the 280 concubines after learning that one of them would have slept with another man. Sultan was known for its nerve disorders.

2. During the medieval period, many people suspected of witchcraft were killed. Some anthropologists estimated that 600,000 people died because of this.

3. Roman Emperor Gaius Caesar, also known as Caligula, gave his horse, Incitatus, a seat in the Senate. He had even tried to "promote" the consul.

4. When Pope Gregory IX cats associated with devil worship, they were exterminated throughout Europe. Sudden disappearance of cats and rats led to the spread of diseases which they bear. About 100 million people have lost their lives because of bubonic plague.

5. The Aztecs used to offer gods whom they worshiped human sacrifices. In 1847, the inauguration of the temple of Tenochtitlan, 20,000 people were killed.

6. In the thirteenth century, 30,000 young people participated in the so-called "children's crusade". They were convinced that God will allow them to regain the Holy Land without resistance. Most died but the trip or were sold as slaves.

7. Ancient Egypt, the servants were anointed with honey to attract flies away from Pharaoh.

8. Before becoming pope, Pius II wrote a popular erotic book, "The story of two lovers."

9. In the nineteenth century, incidents in which people were buried alive were so frequent that the inventors have patented "safety coffins". Thus, the "dead" were able to alert the guards cemeteries.

10. Between 1525 and 1866, about 12.5 million Africans were kidnapped or sold into slavery in the United States, the Caribbean and South America.
