Under the terms of the new policy on adult content, nudity will be allowed only if the Blogger "provides a substantial public benefit, such as artistic, documentary, educational or scientific contexts".

Blogger platform users are already asked to add the label "adult" if their website contains explicit material, which means that a warning message is displayed before accessing the blog.

Under the terms and conditions of use today, Google reserves the right to label a site like adults-only whether the blog author disagrees.

In 2013, Google has banned sites on the Blogger platform to display advertisements for pornographic websites.

Critics have rejected the measure announced by Google, classifying it as a useless form of censorship.

"Adult content was, historically, in the forefront of the fight for freedom of expression and political dissent, and this will not change anytime soon," wrote journalist and commentator on sexual themes Violet Blue on site ZDNet acquis.
